Why try Freshwater Coasteering?
After a family coasteering session with the children in Cornwall? Up for some adrenaline, adventure and exhilaration, but never done it before and feeling a bit cautious? Or maybe you’re keen to have a go, but are wondering how safe it is? It’s worth considering freshwater coasteering!
What makes freshwater coasteering special?

Freshwater coasteering gives you the adrenaline buzz of scrambling up rock faces and plunging into water from height, without being at the mercy of the wind and tides that can come with sea coasteering. There’s no need to wait for the right weather to go freshwater coasteering, so if you’re on holiday in Cornwall for a limited time and want to make sure you don’t miss out on having this amazing adventure, then this is a great option!
It can be a really good way to ‘test the water’ if you’re a beginner, or you have young children trying it for the first time. It can also give you a feel for the activity and build your confidence and technique before you decide whether to embrace wilder conditions of the sea! There are some beautiful spots for inland coasteering too, so you can get close to nature in a relaxed environment.
Family friendly coasteering with us
If you’re looking for coasteering sessions near Falmouth, then we offer family friendly coasteering in our historic water-filled granite quarries. Our sessions are suitable for children aged 8+ and adults. Read on to see what you can expect!
Having never done ‘Coasteering’ before we were a little apprehensive about doing this for the first time with high waves etc. Via Ferrata was our choice as it gives the experiences of Coasteering but within a fresh water quarry.
This was definitely the right choice, my boys (14 and 16) thoroughly enjoyed it, and our instructor Paul was incredible. Wetsuits were provided which kept us all warmer than we expected…
Paul stated that he would show us the climbs / jumps and leave it up to the individual whether this was in their comfort zone to attempt. He didn’t put any pressure on anyone if they were nervous…
We started off walking off of ledges maybe a foot above water then building up slowly while we all built confidence…Lastly there were 3 platforms that everyone had the opportunity to jump from. They were approximately 3,4+5 metres from the deepest part of the pit. They seemed much higher from the platforms than from the relative safety of the water below however our confidence had grown while building up to this event and everyone who attempted a jump, was successful.
Paul was so good and supportive.

Reliable sessions in a stunning setting
Surrounded by rugged cliff faces on three sides, stunning views and lush greenery on our 60 acre site, this is an amazing place to explore in a sheltered and safe setting.
Our coasteering sessions happen come rain or shine, so you can rest assured that your adventure will go ahead – and be just as fun whatever the weather!
Coasteering for children aged 8+ and adults
Our coasteering adventures are suitable for families with children aged eight upwards, whilst also catering for thrill-seeking adults. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have tried coasteering before, there are fun challenges for everyone!
(If you’ve got little ones younger than eight, then we also run stand-up paddleboarding, mixed watersports and archery sessions for those aged 6+. There’s also a Café run by The Cornish Barista with amazing views, as well as adventure nature trails and a wild play area for toddlers and children aged under 10).
No minimum swimming requirements
As there’s no wind or tide movement, we don’t have any swimming requirements. We cater for all abilities and whilst you’ll need an average fitness level, there are no height or weight limits.
Different challenge levels
We’re a very friendly and relaxed team, so there’ll never be any pressure to go higher than you feel comfortable with. You can start small and gradually scramble up higher as you build confidence. As well as natural rock crevices to leap off, we have built-in platforms at 3, 4 and 5 meters high. One thing is guaranteed – you’ll feel an incredible buzz and feeling of exhilaration!
Coasteering at its safest
Our quarry provides a safe and controlled environment. We’ve undertaken thorough risk assessments, so there’ll be no unexpected rocks or dangers lurking beneath the water! Our fully qualified Instructors will run through all the safety procedures with you first and will be right there to guide you through all the techniques and everything you need to know.
No hassle!
Everything is contained within our convenient site, so you can simply turn up, get kitted out and get going. All the kit is provided, including good quality wetsuits (though you can bring your own if you have them), buoyancy aids and helmets. So, all you need to bring are shoes to wear in the water (or wet suit boots), a swimming costume to wear under the wet suit and a towel.
Coasteering for children only
Finally, we offer coasteering as part of our Adventure Holiday Club – Cornwall’s most exciting childcare! This is for children aged 6-13 to enjoy during the school holidays. You can simply drop them off for a half or full day of amazing adventure activities that they’ll be talking about for weeks!
We hope this has given you an insight into freshwater coasteering and we wish you an amazing coasteering experience!
